What's Up 10/17

Conferences this week. The conference schedule is posted on the blog.
Early dismissal this week and the following Monday and Tuesday at 12:50

Your child should be finishing or have finished the book they are reading for the book project and should begin the actual project

PE Friday

Behavior –We got all 4’s last week and one 5!

Math -  We are working on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators

English Language Arts - Theme 2 is Give It All You’ve Got
We are reading La Bamba and reviewing our answers for Theme test 1
Strategy focus; summarize
Comprehension skill: story structure
Word work: root spec/t and opt, multiple meaning words, action verbs and direct objects
Writing: Paragraphing in stories with focus on change of time

    I'm not sure how to start a new thread, or if that's possible, but I wanted to post a question and a comment--here goes:

    I see math benchmarks are coming up, but are there English/reading benchmarks coming up, too? When are they?

    BTW, the girls and I read that book about the 1906 earthquake that I found to go with the monthly reading theme of Nature's Fury. They *really* liked it. It's by Lawrence Yep and is called _The Earth Dragon Awakes_. It's the story of the white Travis family and their servant Ah Sing and his son Chin--they barely escape the earthquake and fire of 1906. Anyway, check it out! We just returned it to the SL Public Library.
